Yolanda Be Cool Interview !

We got the super special opportunity to interview Yolanda Be Cool. Since posting WSNA back in early May, the track became absolutly huge topping UK singles chart at No.1. As datty as WSNA is, we'd like to point out that Yolanda has many more very slick choones up on Beatport (my favorite being their remix of Deadfish's 'Obrigado').

Philthkids:
First off, how does it feel having WSNA turn into a major hit, were you expecting
success to this extent?

Yolanda:
It feels amazing. We feel very lucky and privileged that so many people like our
track.

Philthkids:
Where in Australia are you from?

Yolanda:
Sydney – Bondi Beach

Philthkids:
What are your musical backgrounds?

Yolanda:
I [Sylvester] started playing saxophone in primary schoool, then played guitar
and sung in various bands once leaving school. Johnson played the triangle in a concert band but got thrown out because he kept losing the thing you tap the triangle with.

Philthkids:
[LOL] Which aspect to Yolanda is more important – sample based production or
electronic?

Yolanda:
They are both equally as important. We love sampling as its fun, but we always
try to make the original electronic instrumental track strong as a stand alone
track, then the sample is quite often the icing on the cake.

Philthkids:
Will we be seeing more Yolanda be Cool / DCUP tracks coming out?

Yolanda:
Yes definitely, we have a whole heap of original Yolanda Be Cool stuff soon to be released as well as two follow up singles with DCUP.

Philthkids:
Who is DCUP, what's his deal?

Yolanda:
He is an amazingly talented DJ / Producer / Friend based in Sydney who is
signed to the same label and booking agent as us - ‘Sweat it Out’.

Philthkids:
Touring / Plans? Favorite place in Europe? Ever plan on coming to Canada?

Yolanda:
Touring Plans – yes a lot. Have been on tour for the last 6 months.
Favourite place in Europe is on the dancefloor @ Cacoon at 7:00am with Ricardo
Villalbobos or Loco Dice or Seth Troxler ruling in IBIZA…. Or Bar 25 in Berlin..
So much fun!!! CANADA – YES see you January.

Philthkids:
How do you feel about the increasingly popular tropical/rave/uk-funky hybrids
going on, do you feel your music is a part of this movement? Are you familiar with
artists such as Douster?

Yolanda:
Yeah, we love this music. we call it ‘Party Tech’, Mowgli and Solo call it ‘Midget
House’ others call it Tropical… We LOVE DOUSTER.. we have played gigs with him. He actually produced an amazing remix of our first single AFRO NUTS.. check it out. Its awesome.

Philthkids:
Will we ever hear a Yolanda booty track at 150+ bpm?

Yolanda:
Unlikely…. You have more chance of us going down to 90bpm… stay tuned.. but
never say never…

Philthkids:
Being no where close to Australia I can only glimpse at the music scene via
fibre-optics. So I ask, do you guys bop heads at all with the Scatterblog guys?

Yolanda:
We are good mates with Matt Can & Mugen. They are awesome dudes and great
djs. We always joke that those guys are so upfront they play tracks in their sets
that haven’t even been made yet haha.

Philthkids:
Last but not least, what is your favorite dessert?

Yolanda:
The Sahara… Nah Cheese cake
